Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF)
COV is utilizing a data-driven, community participatory model, Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF). As part of the SPF process, an epidemiological report of county and state data was created and used to inform regional substance use and the selection of a culturally appropriate prevention curriculum for implementation in southern Rio Arriba and northern Santa Fe County schools.
Data shows that Youth substance use in Santa Fe County is 28.4% for alcohol, marijuana, at 33.9% and tobacco smoking at 11.6%. The evidenced-based program, Familia Adelante, has been adapted to the communities in Rio Arriba and Santa Fe counties (Catchment Area), by understanding the historical cultural divide, and the significance of inclusion for the Native American and Hispanic populations.
