COV oversees the Youth Advisory Council of the National Latino Behavioral Health Association. Its purpose is to build the skills of young people, 16-18 years of age, in Southern Rio Arriba County and Northern Santa Fe County to prevent underage drinking, substance use, youth suicide and improve overall behavioral health for their communities. Youth interns will receive training to produce youth-authored messages delivered through media, culturally appropriate videos and presentations for the public.
Paid youth interns/council will implement environmental strategies that aim to impact social norms related to the prevention of underage drinking and substance abuse in Southern Rio Arriba and Northern Santa Fe Counties.
The youth will receive training on how to implement prevention strategies, engage in the SPF steps, and develop youth leadership skills.
The youth interns and youth advisory council will be administered surveys to measure their knowledge and skills obtained during their participation in trainings and the implementation of the environmental strategies.
