Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT)
A conjoint child and parent psychotherapy model for children who are experiencing significant emotional and behavioral difficulties related to traumatic life events. It is a components-based hybrid treatment model that incorporates trauma-sensitive interventions with cognitive behavioral, family, and humanistic principles. The therapy is designed to help 3- to 18-year-olds and their parents overcome the negative effects of traumatic life events such as child sexual or physical abuse. It aims to treat serious emotional problems, such as posttraumatic stress, fear, anxiety, and depression, by teaching children and their parents new skills to process thoughts and feelings resulting from traumatic events.
