Second Step Child Protection Unit

A universal, classroom-based program for pre-kindergarten and elementary age children (ages 4-11) designed to develop students’ knowledge and skills for protecting themselves from unsafe and abusive situations in and out of the classroom. The program aims to provide developmentally appropriate explicit skills instruction, offering content and media that is designed to be age-appropriate and engage students in learning how to recognize, refuse, and report unsafe situations and inappropriate touching. The program goals are: 1) Increase knowledge of personal safety rules, 2) Increase ability to recognize unsafe and sexually abusive situations and touches, 3) Increase ability to report unsafe and sexually abusive situations and touches, and 4) Increase ability to refuse unsafe and sexually abusive situations and touches.
