Healthy Families America (HFA)

A home visiting model designed to work with families, beginning prenatally or after birth, who have histories of trauma, intimate partner violence, mental health issues, substance use disorder and/or other life stressors. Services are offered voluntarily, intensively, and over the long term. Additionally, and with National Office approval, HFA sites may voluntarily enroll families referred from Child Welfare/Children’s Protective Services with a child up to 24 months of age, offering services for a minimum of three years after enrollment. Building upon attachment and bio-ecological systems theories, and the tenets of trauma-informed care, interactions between direct service providers and families are relationship-based; designed to promote positive parent-child relationships and secure attachment; services are strengths-based; family-centered; culturally responsive; and reflective.
