Therapist Supervisor – Youth Mental Health & Substance Use

This position qualifies for a signing bonus of $3,000. The City of Alexandria is located in northern Virginia and is bordered by the District of Columbia (Potomac River), Arlington and Fairfax counties. With a population of approximately 150,000 and a land area of 15.75 square miles, Alexandria is the seventh largest city in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Alexandria has a charming waterfront and is a unique and historic place to live and work. 

The Opportunity:

  • Recruit, hire, train and supervise Licensed Mental Health Professionals who engage youth and families in substance abuse and mental health assessment, treatment and case management services.
  • In collaboration with supervisor, develop and implement substances use disorder outpatient treatment protocols.
  • Engage youth and families in substance abuse and mental health assessment, treatment, and case management services.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary treatment planning meetings, workgroups, court hearings, and relevant training.
  • Provide consultation and ensure close collaboration and coordination with system partners (i.e., child welfare, juvenile court, schools).
  • Maintain electronic health record in accordance with State, City, Departmental and Federal requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What we are looking for:

The ideal candidate has thorough knowledge of and training in clinical supervision of Licensed Mental Health Professionals; thorough knowledge of diagnosis, assessment and evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents who experience trauma, mental health and substance use challenges; skills in conducting behavioral health assessments, treatment plans, family, individual and group therapy; ability to prioritize youth and family voice and collaborate with community partners; thorough knowledge of current social, economic and health issues impacting racially and ethnically diverse families; knowledge, skills and ability to manage change including the ability to interpret and follow work processes and procedures; ability to motivate diverse professionals to function as a team at a high level; ability to document in an electronic health record; ability to communicate both orally and in writing, in a clear concise manner, with other professionals and with the public.

CFBHS is part of the Center for Children and Families (CCF) which provides services in the areas of Behavioral Health, Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, Child Welfare, Early Childhood and Youth Development. CCF provides compassionate, collaborative, and effective person and family-centered services based on best practices. Our teams support self-determination, safety, recovery, and resiliency for Alexandria residents affected by abuse, neglect, mental illness, intellectual disabilities, and substance abuse disorders.

Minimum & Additional Requirements

Master’s degree in Human Services; two years post-graduate work experience in providing direct clinical services to clients having psychiatric and/or substance abuse disorders; at least two years post-master’s experience providing diagnostic evaluations, assessments, and crisis intervention. Licensed in Virginia as an LCSW, LPC, LSATP, or Clinical Psychologist OR is license eligible (has completed all required education and supervision as required by applicable board) as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner (LSATP), or Clinical Psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia at the time of appointment; if license eligible, the employee must obtain Virginia license at the first available opportunity, but no later than one year after appointment. Good driving record/background check; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

At least three years of post-master’s experience engaging school-age youth and their families in trauma-informed, culturally relevant, evidence-based behavioral health and substance use disorder (SUD) services. At least three years of clinical experience at the level of Licensed Mental Health Professional working with families with children with substance use disorders/dual diagnosis who were also involved in child welfare and/or juvenile courts systems; At least two years of experience managing behavioral health programs for children and families; At least two years of experience working with electronic health records (HER); At least one year of experience managing change in response to needs; Fluent and Bilingual in both English and Spanish.

This position requires the successful completion of pre-employment background checks including but not limited to: Federal Records Check; VA State Child Abuse/Neglect Registry; Medicare/Medicaid Fraud Database; education/certifications; and driver’s license. 
 
Schedule: Monday through Friday, some evening hours required. 

Salary: $76,229.66 – $134,147.52 Annually
