Nurse-Family Partnership

Provides low-income, first-time mothers of any age with children, ages 0-4, with home-visitation services from public health nurses. The program addresses substance abuse and other behaviors that contribute to family poverty, subsequent pregnancies, poor maternal and infant outcomes, suboptimal childcare, and limited opportunities for the childrenThe nurses visit the women one to two times per month during their pregnancy and the first two years of their children’s lives. The nurses teach 1) positive health related behaviors, 2) competent care of children, and 3) maternal personal development (family planning, educational achievement, and participation in the workforce).
