Little Joe & La Familia

Please plan to attend the Five Time Grammy Award Winner – Little Joe & La Familia charity concert on Friday, August 23rd at 8pm (CT) in the Hyatt Regency Ballroom at the San Antonio Riverwalk Hotel.

Little Joe & La Familia, established in 1959 by José María de León Hernández (Little Joe), is a renowned Tejano band known for its unique blend of norteño, country, blues, and rock-and-roll. Originating as Little Joe and the Latinaires, the band gained popularity in the 1960s, evolving into a leading force in the Tejano music scene. Their commitment to cultural and political issues, notably during the Chicano movement, is reflected in their name change to Little Joe & La Familia.

The band’s significant influence during the La Onda Chicana period is highlighted in their successful albums like “Para la Gente” (1972), which showcased a mix of ranchero and jaitón traditions. Known for their large audience appeal, they performed at major venues and festivals across the United States. Little Joe’s contributions to Texas music have been recognized with awards including a Governor’s Award and a Smithsonian Lifetime Legend Award. The band has won several Grammys, including Best Mexican American Album in 1991 and Best Tejano Album in 2008 and 2011, marking their lasting impact on the Tejano music genre.
