DESCRIPTION:Talk Saves Lives® fue creado en colaboración con la National Latino Behavioral Health Association (NLBHA) y especialistas de AFSP. Esta colaboración representa un esfuerzo para ofrecer educación sobre factores culturales relacionados con el suicidio y expandir los programas de prevención del suicidio a comunidades diversas. Los participantes recibirán educación útil sobre salud mental y prevención del suicidio mediante actividades prácticas\, así como materiales para llevar a casa y utilizar en el futuro si es necesario. El objetivo de este nuevo programa es promover conversaciones sobre salud mental dentro de las comunidades latinas e hispanas y fomentar la búsqueda de ayuda para prevenir el suicidio y los intentos de suicidio. \n\n\n\nInformación Sobre el Ponente\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEnrique López-Escalera\, JCL.\, STL.\, MSW. \n\n\n\nEnrique nació en El Paso\, Texas\, y se crió en Ciudad Juárez\, México. Desde los nueve años reside en Nuevo México\, salvo por unos años que vivió en el extranjero cursando estudios superiores. Se identifica profundamente con la zona fronteriza. Es totalmente bilingüe y bicultural. Enrique es coach de vida (certificado por la Academia de Transformación). Tiene títulos de posgrado en Trabajo Social\, Derecho Canónico y Teología\, así como una especialización en Filosofía. Cuenta con más de 25 años de experiencia al servicio de las personas en el sur de Nuevo México. Su experiencia incluye el asesoramiento espiritual y la orientación en salud mental y conductual. Su método se caracteriza por la profesionalidad\, la calidez y la sencillez\, comunicando conceptos importantes en términos fáciles de entender.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Trauma-Informed Care: Foundations for Practice
DESCRIPTION:This 90-minute introductory session provides a foundational overview of Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) and its role in improving patient and organizational outcomes. Participants will explore the six core principles of Trauma-Informed Care as outlined by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC)\, including safety\, trust\, connection\, collaboration\, empowerment\, and cultural responsiveness. The training will examine how trauma impacts behavior\, engagement\, and health outcomes\, and introduce practical strategies to improve provider–patient relationships while minimizing distress and promoting autonomy. Participants will gain tools to begin assessing services through a trauma-informed lens and understand what it means to build a trauma-informed organization. \n\n\n\nAbout the Presenter\n\n\n\nDr. J Rocky Romero\, LMSW \n\n\n\nDr. Romero is the CEO and owner of JR Romero & Associates\, a company he started 21 years ago that focuses on behavioral health program development\, program evaluation\, consultation\, and specialized training. Dr. Romero completed his doctoral studies at the University of New Mexico in Language\, Literacy\, and Sociocultural Studies (LLSS) with a focus on analyzing legal discourse related to Spanish colonization while applying a critical race theory lens. Dr. Romero has been a trainer and consultant for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) funded National Hispanic & Latino-Mental Health Technology Transfer Center for the last 13 years. The training also highlights key risk and protective factors\, including the roles of family\, spirituality\, and cultural values in shaping healing and resilience. \n\n\n\nInformation About the Presenter\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEnrique López-Escalera\, JCL.\, STL.\, MSW. \n\n\n\nEnrique was born in El Paso\, Texas and raised in Ciudad Juárez\, Mexico. Since the age of nine he has resided in New Mexico\, except for a few years living abroad pursuing higher education. He deeply identifies with the Borderlands. He is fully bilingual and bi-cultural. Enrique is a life coach (certified by Transformation Academy). He has post-graduate degrees in Social Work\, Canon Law\, and Theology as well as a minor in philosophy. He has 25+ years of experience of serving people directly in southern New Mexico. His range of experience includes spiritual counseling and mentoring in mental and behavioral health. DESCRIPTION:This 90-minute training examines the ACE Study and how cumulative trauma affects brain development\, stress response systems\, and long-term health. Participants will explore how trauma exposure impacts individuals and communities\, including those frequently encountered in crisis response. The session highlights protective factors and resilience-building approaches that support both community members and responder wellness. \n\n\n\nAbout the Presenter\n\n\n\nLucila Beaton\, LISW-CP/S\, LCSW\, LCSWC \n\n\n\nLucila Beaton\, LISW-CP\, graduated with an MSW degree from Yeshiva University. She is an independent licensed clinical social worker specializing as a trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapist. She is also a certified mental health first aid instructor for the National Council on Behavioral Health and a Living Works trainer who provides suicide prevention and intervention training such as ASIST and Safe Talk. She also offers Triple P parent trainings for levels 2\, 3\, 4\, and 5 and Fearless training in English and Spanish. She is bilingual and bicultural and embraces the intersectionality of being Afro-Latina and all that it entails.
