SUMMARY:Health and Mental Wellness Fair: A Lifeline for Rural Communities and Agricultural Workers
DESCRIPTION:The FREE Health and Mental Wellness Fair\, hosted by Julissa Soto\, Suicide Prevention Commissioner and advocate for mental health and wellness\, will take place on Saturday\, May 17\, 2025\, from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM at Mountair Christian Church\, Lakewood\, CO. This pivotal event aims to support the disability community\, immigrants\, refugees\, underserved populations\, uninsured individuals\, and Spanish speakers\, with a special focus on agricultural workers and their families. \n\n\n\nThis fair seeks to provide critical mental health resources to individuals who often lack access to services\, particularly in rural and agricultural communities. Agricultural workers face unique and often invisible burdens\, from isolation and financial insecurity to the intense physical and emotional demands of their labor. Many individuals and families in these communities suffer in silence\, with limited access to mental health care and a deep-seated stigma surrounding seeking help. \n\n\n\nJulissa Soto\, an attempt survivor and a passionate advocate for suicide prevention\, understands the importance of creating supportive environments for those who may feel isolated in their struggles. “The challenges faced by agricultural families\, especially in rural areas\, are often overlooked. By bringing health and wellness resources directly to these communities\, we can ensure they receive the care they deserve\,” Soto said. \n\n\n\nThe fair will serve individuals from over 15 counties across Colorado\, including Adams\, Arapahoe\, Boulder\, Broomfield\, Clear Creek\, Denver\, Douglas\, Jefferson\, Gilpin\, Weld\, Huerfano\, La Plata\, Montrose\, Otero\, and San Juan counties. These counties represent a mix of urban and rural areas\, with the aim of ensuring that agricultural workers and their families are well-represented and supported. \n\n\n\nAttendees will have access to a variety of services including mental health support\, wellness resources\, community outreach programs\, and connections to local health providers. The fair is free to attend and open to all\, with a special focus on those who may face barriers to healthcare or mental health services.
